Even though Isofix Car seats were released in Australia a couple of years ago now, we are often asked about Isofix Car Seat fitting systems still today. This is because there is differences with Australian Standards versus overseas standards. As a result, the ISOFIX systems in Australia are different.
We use and recommend Dorel’s ISOGO solution.
ISOGO & ISOFIX
ISOGO is an ISOFIX compatible system for Maxi-Cosi and other Dorel owned brands of Car Seats for babies and up.
Dorel are experts in child mobility and are an international leader in the production and testing of products featuring ISOFIX compatibility. Due to their experience, their ISOGO system is a simple and user friendly latch system. It enables parents and care givers to safely connect their Maxi-Cosi and Mothers Choice child restraints to their vehicle’s ISOFIX lower anchorages.
The ISOGO system takes the guess work out of the installation process. In addition, it aids parents to easily install the child restraint giving peace of mind that the installation has been done correctly with the green indicators.
ISOGO peace of mind:
- Ease of use
- The confidence to move Maxi-Cosi restraints from car to car or to relocate the restraint in a single vehicle
- Greatly reduced possibility of installation error and incorrect fitting
- ISOGO colour indicator that confirms correct installation
- Flexible lower ISOFIX compatible connectors to fit most vehicles
Maxi-Cosi was the first provider of ISOFIX compatible car seats to the Australian market. ISOGO is a simple 3 step process to secure the car seat in your vehicle. Select, Connect, Correct. This is now also available in the Mothers Choice brand of Baby Car Seats with the ISOGO version of ISOFIX.

Why is our ISOFIX System different from Overseas?
ISOFIX compatible systems must comply with the Australian/ New Zealand 1754 Standard. Baby Car Seats that comply must be fitted with rigid or flexible lower attachment connectors as well as top tether straps. The dynamic testing required varies from country to country.
Therefore a child restraint that is purchased overseas is illegal and any insurance will be null and void in the event of an accident. The Australian/ New Zealand 1754 Standard is known to be the most stringent in the world
Can I install an ISOGO Car Seat in a Non ISOFIX CAR?
Yes, ISOFIX compatible child restraints must be able to be installed using the traditional lap sash belt method. As a result of these laws, the ISOGO baby Car seats have the option of both the traditional installation with lap-sash belt and the new ISOGO system
What’s the Difference between Rigid and Flexible ISOFIX systems?
The Rigid ISOFIX compatible system is a retractable pair of lower connectors. These are found in the base of a child restraint. It is much heavier than the flexible system and the connectors are designed to be a fixed distance apart from one another.
The lower connectors are not designed to move independently and can only be tightened via a ratchet locking system.
The Flexible ISOFIX compatible system is a pair of light weight lower connectors designed to attach individually. Each side of the lower connectors is fitted with a tension indicator. Due to this, when pulled to the optimal tension, the indicators turn green for validation of a correct installation.
Why Did Dorel Choose the Flexible System?
Dorel chose a flexible compatible system to have the ability to suit a greater variety of vehicles. Not all ISOFIX lower anchorage points are exactly the same width apart from each other. This may vary depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
As a result, the ISOGO flexible system is a lighter and more affordable solution that ensures easy installation in most cars.
This is why we believe that ISOGO is the best ISOFIX Baby Car Seat solution for parents.
How can I find out if my car is ISOFIX Compatible?
Check for the international icon along the back seats in your vehicle. The lower connectors can be visible or hidden depending on the make and model of your car.
Is ISOFIX Available for Booster Seats and Convertible Booster Seats?
No, Australian/ New Zealand Standard 1754 has limited the use of ISOFIX lower anchorage systems to specific category of child restraints which does not include convertible boosters and booster seats.
