Why did babyhood create a specific Cot for this industry?
Work Safe Victoria discovered carers were suffering from multiple skeletal injuries. These were caused by the repeated manual handling and bending into cots in 2011. The injuries caused varied from person to person but are caused primarily by the repeated bending into lower level cots.
Work Safe Victoria proceeded to issue Early Learning Centre’s infringement notices and required center’s to change their cots to a more suitable cot to reduce the injuries caused.
This meant that the options for Early Learning Centre’s were limited to Cots that did not meet Australian Standards or metal cots. Metal Cots didn’t meet the comfort and assurance requirements of parents and carers.
As a result, babyhood began working in consultation with various associations including Work Safe Victoria, Kindergarten Parents Victoria (KPV), Good Start Childcare, Fair Trading Victoria, Fair Trading Queensland and one of Australia’s leading ergonomists Chris Fitzgerald.
babyhood decided to try to resolve the issue by developing a Cot specific for this industry’s needs. This was no easy task as it required new innovation, new technology and the consensus of all the related parties as to what was best for carers, babies and parents.
After almost 14 months, babyhood had designed and manufactured the babyhood Ergonomic Cot, which was proudly launched at the KPV Conference in Melbourne.
The unique Australian Patented and Design Registered Cot was made to reduce the stress placed on carers. They did this by increasing the base height and making access to the child easier. The design allows carers to get closer to the child to reduce the impact of the load.

I purchased this cot after having lots of sleepless nights from back pain. It is also much better for taller people. My husband is 6ft5 and finds this cot a lot easier to use!
Only issues that I have is that the side can be a bit difficult to drop down. I am much better at it now but it has taken some getting used to. Also, I cannot comfortably put my arm through the bars to pat my baby. In the video they said they can, but I can’t. All in all though, I think that the cot has been a life saver. It is so much easier to sit next to the cot, with the side down, and pat my baby to sleep. In the previous cot, I just could not do it! Good for me and good for baby!

My husband and I both have bad backs. Putting our son to sleep was killing us! This cot takes the physical pain out of the equation, settling him is still a challenge!
