What makes us unique when buying a Cot?
This section will allow you to narrow down that huge search for that perfectot or your childs nursery. These are expensive items to buy so you want to make sure these products have everything you require and will last the duration of your child's needs.
You may have noticed that Bubs n Grubs do NOT sell EVERY brand or product on the market - the reason is that we have a long check list of minimum requirements BEFORE we decide if we will sell the product.
At Bubs n Grubs, our mission is to save you money. Up front purchase price is only one area we achieve this. Delivery is another area. The most significant area we can save you money is by making sure that you get the right product for your specific needs. We do NOT want you to become one of the statistics that end up replacing their first cot because they were not happy with their first purchase. We have done your research for you and chosen a variety of products that will suit all budgets. We have detailed below just some of the minimum requirements that we look at when deciding if we will sell a product... there are more.. but we don't want to give all of our trade secrets away...
Some things we look out for:
- All furniture is made according to Australian/New Zealand design standards.
- All furniture is free of rough surfaces, sharp edges, points and projections.
- All furniture is sturdily constructed so it will not collapse under a baby's weight.
- We Test locking devices - they function properly.
- We look for entrapment hazards - it is easy for small fingers and limbs to get caught in gaps, and head and upper body entrapment can cause death by asphyxiation. Fingers can get caught in holes or openings between 5-12mm; limbs in gaps between 30-50mm and heads in gaps over 95mm.
Babies probably spend more time in cots than anywhere else so it's important their cots are safe. Most cot injuries are due to falls from the cot. Deaths have occurred when infants have fallen through or been caught in gaps sometimes found in old cots.
Four Key features to look for include:
Single handed Drop Sides. You can't hold baby in your arms safely if it takes two arms and hands to drop the side of a cot.
Two level height adjustment of the cot mattress - Babies will climb out when the grow tallerif they can manage to reach over the edge. As they get older drop the height of the mattress so that it is still out of reach for them.
No Solid Ends - this allows better air flow.
Toddler Rails are available for turning it into a cot bed.
